Blue Heat formed in 1991 when Marco Goldsmith was offered a gig at the
Ballarat Blues Festival. Needing a band in a hurry, Marco approached Barry
Galbraith, with whom he had previously worked. Barry agreed to join Marco's
band, and suggested his brother Graeme be invited as well. The trio was well
received at the Ballarat Blues festival, and remained together afterwards.
Bradley Harrison soon began sitting in on gigs occasionally, as a guest
player, and was also invited to become a permanent member. After this, Paul
Lemke, Matthew Trenery, and Richard Tankard also joined the fold, and together
they produced a big, swinging, funky sound like no other band around.
Apart from Ballarat, Blue Heat have played at the East Coast Blues Festival
(1993) and the Melbourne Blues Festival (1991, 1992 and 1993).
In January 1997, the stress of keeping a seven-piece band alive began to
show, and the members of Marco Goldsmith's Blue Heat voted to change the name
of the band simply to Blue Heat. Unfortunately, this did not appear to help,
and the band members soon went separate ways. In May 1997, one of the finest
R&B bands in Australia breathed its last at a memorable night supporting
B.B. King.
