Formed in August of 1991 by Ian Ferguson, Lindsay Nankivell, Tony Lunt and
Tony Baars, the Carson Taylor Band draws its name from two earlier bands:
Carson and Snakehipps Taylor. The band quickly became a regular sight
around the inner eastern suburbs of Melbourne. An additional guitarist,
Geoff Spooner, joined in October 1992 and in December of that same year the
band appeared at the Broadford Festival.
In April 1993, Bryan Angliss joined on drums when the band was recording
their original track "Do It Good" for inclusion on the Studio 52 recording
Real Australian Blues Vol. 2. In August, Tony Baars departed the band and Ian
Ferguson took over vocal duties. October saw a mini tour of North East Victoria
which included the Wangaratta Jazz/Blues Festival.
June of 1994 saw Kevin Buckingham join the band, further expanding their killer
boogie guitar sound. Kevin retired in January 1996, but was convinced to rejoin
the fold in March 1997 when Lindsay Nankivell retired from playing live after
a long career. Further line-up changes occured in 1998 when Bryan Angliss was
replaced by Kevin Fennessy, who was himself then replaced by Bob Pritchard.
The Carson Taylor Band continues as an icon of the boogie sound in the
Melbourne blues world.
